Apple Granola Sailboat Snack
This week I had the pleasure of hanging out with my little buddy! It has been a while since I have had a little one with so much energy. He tired me right out! But, while it was fresh in my mind I wanted to share this cute apple granola sailboat snack we made together.
Now, I say snack; but shhhh don’t tell, we had them for breakfast!
Normally, when I fill in for this family I have both the little guy and his sister. Sister started school this fall and now it is only little buddy at home. Only having one child to look after should be easier but proved to be more difficult at times.
You seem to become the replacement playmate for a little while until you can get into a rhythm. The beginning of the week proved more challenging than the end. It was a short notice call to action and I didn’t get a chance to prepare. I like to prepare something to have in my bag of tricks.
Monday morning I was a little shell-shocked but after asked my little buddy what he wanted to do in the morning he said, cook. Keep in mind that this is 3 minutes after waking up. He went and started removing pots and pans from the cupboard – way too early in the morning, My coffee had not even had a chance to kick in yet.
Quick survey of the pantry, fridge and cupboard and a little quick thinking – I suggested we make apple sailboats. Ok. We both agreed. Apple sailboat it is.
Peanut Butter or Apple Butter
We cut the apple in half. I wanted to keep half the apple for star prints. See another picture of how to cut the apple correctly above.
We used one half to thickly slice for our apple boat and set aside the other half to lightly dip into paint to make star prints on paper later in the day.
Little buddy spread the peanut butter or apple butter onto the apple slice.
He sprinkled granola on top of the peanut butter or apple butter.
Love Crunch Granola
Skippy Natural Peanut Butter
He cut the cheese slice into a triangle and I threaded the sail on to the toothpick.
He planted the sail onto the boat.
I had him sit at the table and I transferred the boat to a plate. As I brought it to the table our sail apparently caught some wind 🙂
Little buddy tried to blow on the sail to see if it would move. IT DID!! Breakfast is served! With a side of yogurt.
